Sending Mail from a Remote Location
Beginning April 1st, 2002, the CAMAIL service will undergo a small
change that will affect how its users send mail from locations outside
of the Harvard network. These users will include those that check
their mail from their respective home ISPs, other universities, etc.
This document explains the necessary changes needed for both Eudora and for Outlook to
continue to send mail normally after this change goes into effect.
Eudora
- Click on the Tools menu option at the top of the Eudora screen.
- Click on the Options... menu option:
- In the Options dialog box that will be on your screen, click
on the Sending Mail icon on the left-hand side of the dialog box.
- Check the box beside the Allow authentication item, if it does
not already have a check beside it.
- Click the OK button at the bottom of the dialog box. You should now
be able to use CAMAIL to relay your mail.
Microsoft Outlook
- Right-click on the Account name (e.g. camail.harvard.edu) under which
all your folders appear.
- Click on the Properties item from the menu.
- Click on the Servers tab at the top of the dialog box.
- At the bottom of the dialog box, you should now see an option labelled
My server requires authentication. Click on the box beside this
label if this box does not have a check in it already.
- Click on the Settings... button.
- In the Outgoing Mail Server dialog box that you should now see,
click on the button beside the Use same settings as my incoming mail
server to select it. The rest of the dialog box should now be grayed out.
- Click on the OK button.
- Click on the OK button in the previous dialog box to close it. You
should now be able to send mail using Outlook.
